oopoomoo is proud to present Creative Landscape Photography – Telling your Visual Stories with Guy Tal. A well-known and highly respected photographer, author and instructor in the United States and globally on the internet, this is Guy’s first instructional foray to Alberta’s wild and beautiful Canadian Rockies. This four-day, immersive photography workshop based out of Aurum Lodge combines Guy’s thoughtful approach to teaching with field sessions in a naturally stunning, world-class setting that is sure to inspire your learning! While the stage will be given all to Guy to maximize our learning from this rare opportunity, we (Darwin and Sam) will be on hand to assist in the field component of this creative workshop. Let’s let Guy explain in his own eloquent words what the workshop is about….

“I believe that the practice of photography as a creative pursuit manifests not only in the making of expressive images, but also has the ability to transform and enrich your life, facilitate meaningful and rewarding experiences, increase your appreciation for the subjects and places you photograph, and foster contentment and satisfaction through life-long discovery and learning – your own creative journey. A creative photograph is the result of venturing beyond the mere act of recording scenes and objects with a camera, and beyond the beauty and interest already inherent in the subject. Rather, it is a means of overlaying such found qualities with meaning, and using them to evoke an emotional response in your viewers.

At the heart of creative photography is the ability to express ulterior meanings using arrangements of lines, colors and forms – a visual language. Rather than literal information, the visual language excels at conveying concepts, abstractions and emotions. As such, it can extend and enrich your powers of expression beyond what is possible within the formal constructs of words and grammar.”

Join Guy to learn about his process-based approach to unlocking the creative potential you already have. Learn how to take your ideas from raw concepts to expressive images with an emphasis on understanding visualization and composition.

The workshop includes both classroom sessions and field work. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop computer loaded with Adobe Photoshop (CS4 or higher) and Lightroom (version 3 or higher). If you do not own the software, you may download a free evaluation copy from adobe.com. Be sure to download your copy shortly before the workshop as evaluation software has an expiration date. Participants should bring notepads and writing instruments, or smart device with a note-taking application that can be conveniently carried into the field. Participants are welcome to bring a portfolio of images (no more than 3) for a show-and-tell review prior to the workshop. Portfolios may be in digital or printed form.
