Not Just Another Photography How-To Site
Let’s face it, there are A LOT of photography websites out there. Some are better than others when it comes to entertaining, informing and educating on the art and craft of photography. We know your time is valuable, and we didn’t want to add more noise to an already buzzing virtual world. So how is oopoomoo different? Well, we think there is more to life than just photography. One day, we woke up and realized that, as photographers, we were doing less creative and fun stuff and a lot of soul-sucking things to scrabble out a living. Sometimes you have to jump off the merry-go-round! We decided to take a big, bold, beautiful risk. Why couldn’t we be photographers, writers and teachers but only photograph, write and teach about the things that were important to us? Why not photograph the vanishing natural areas where we live, write about the delicious, fresh produce of local farms and teach how to walk lighter on the Earth? Because, while we are all farmers, doctors, clerks, IT guys, students, and the like, we are also fathers, mothers, sisters, sons, neighbours and…well, citizens. oopoomoo is a a way of living that seeks to balance our need to consume as part of an enjoyable life with an awareness of how very finite this blue planet is. We believe there are many other people who feel the same.
We don’t profess to have the answers to the BIG QUESTIONS of life. But we hope discussion leads to better ways of doing things. If you like what you read and see here, please add your thoughts by commenting on our blog. We would love to hear from you! Maybe you have some ideas on how to live the oopoomoo life!
But what does oopoomoo mean?
Uh, nothing, actually. Darwin made it up, and we liked the sound of it. We think that ‘oopoomoo’ strikes just the right mix of fun, quirky and happy to describe our new approach to life. Be serious about living, but don’t take life too seriously. You can’t say “oopoomoo” without cracking a smile inside. C’mon, try it. And if you have no idea how to pronounce ‘oopoomoo’, then watch the video to the right!
